Playing with banjoist Noam Pikelny (Punch Brothers) July 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. The band will also feature Aoife O'Donovan (vocals), Chris Eldridge (guitar), Dominick Leslie (mandolin), and Sam Grisman (bass).

New York Banjo Summit: October 25th - November 4th The summit will be featuring some of the world's most influential banjo players all with ties to New York: Bela Fleck, Tony Trischka, Noam Pikelny, Bill Keith, Pete Wernick, Richie Stearns and Eric Weissberg. The Band: Alex Hargreaves (fiddle), Russ Barneberg (guitar), Jesse Cobb (mandolin), Corey DiMario (bass).

Teaching at Christian Howes' Creative Strings Workshop

Alex Appears on Noam Pikelny's New Album

Punch Brothers' banjoist, Noam Pikelny, has just released his second record "Beat The Devil and Carry A Rail" on Compass Records. Alex plays fiddle on the tune "My Mother Thinks I'm A Lawer", the second track of the album. The track also includes Tim O'Brien, David Grier and Mark Schatz.

Alex Hargreaves Named Berklee College of Music and Monterey Jazz Festival’s Fourteenth Jimmy Lyons Scholar

September 10, 2010; Monterey, CA; The Berklee College of Music and the Monterey Jazz Festival have announced that award-winning violinist, recording artist and accomplished touring musician Alex Hargreaves of Corvallis, Oregon, is the fourteenth recipient of the Jimmy Lyons Scholarship at Berklee, a major music education prize. The full-tuition scholarship is named in honor of the festival’s late founder, James L. (Jimmy) Lyons, who began the festival 53 years ago with jazz education at its core.

The Jimmy Lyons Scholarship is awarded each year to one music student in recognition of their outstanding talent. Previously restricted to student musicians from the state of California, this year marks the second time the scholarship competition has been open to young musicians from the Western United States. Because it is a full-tuition, renewable award, satisfactory academic and musical progress in each successive year will allow each Lyons Scholar to attend Berklee through graduation, entirely tuition-free. Previous Lyons Scholars include saxophonist Dayna Stephens (Kenny Barron), drummer James Williams (Gary Burton), cellist Rushad Eggleston (Crooked Still, Fiddlers Four), and drummer Thomas Pridgen (The Mars Volta).
